Required Credit Counseling

Before a person can file bankruptcy, he or she must participate in a counseling session through an approved credit counseling service. In addition, once a bankruptcy petition has been filed, debtors must take another counseling course called a Financial Management/Debtor Education course. It is not necessary that the counseling program be located in Pennsylvania; it is only required that the Middle District of Pennsylvania has approved the counseling program. There are many different programs out there with varying prices and varying levels of customer service.  We continually strive to find the least expensive programs with the best customer service.  We do not receive any money from the companies to which we refer clients.

Pre-filing Financial Counseling Course:  You can take this course online and it costs $9.95: Summit Financial

Post-filing Financial Management Court:  You take this course AFTER you file bankruptcy, BUT WITHIN SIXTY (60) DAYS AFTER YOUR CASE IS FILED.  You can use the same place as the one listed above and the price is $7.95 same (Summit Financial) and we highly recommend that you use this company because it files your certificates directly with the Court.  Should you fail to take this course after you file, your case will be dismissed without getting a discharge. You have 60 days from the date you file your bankruptcy to take this course.

Be sure to tell the counseling company what our email address is so we get a copy (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)

You don't need to print out the certificates for us - we file it electronically so once we get it emailed to us we never print it out either.
